Artists Statement
I really do not have a set style of doing things. Often I sit there looking at blank paper, an empty screen on a computer, or even a variety of yarn with different colors, wondering what my creation of the day will be. Sometimes it comes natural, but more often it is a struggle. But when all is done, it is my creation and I am very proud of it. Arts and crafts are my passions thanks to my mom Prescilla Garcia. Her hands created a variety of things without using a computer or software because they did not exist then. Pens, crayons, watercolors, and oils for painting were my mom’s tools for artistic design not Digital Design. Knowing I may continue to use those things makes my head and heart go crazy because this day and age provide different tools based on those my mother mastered. Now, the designs I create in Photoshop, Illustrator and in InDesign are extensions of what I learned as a kid working and learning what my mom had to teach me. Knowing there is no end to what I could do, the passion continues now in the digital age. Though the work on the computer is enticing, it also challenges me to create works of art that are bigger and better than my mom and I could have ever imagined. She would be so proud. I know she is smiling down from heaven telling all her friends up there about my work. It makes me happy.
